It really shouldn’t be this cold in Seattle this time of year. I guess I wouldn’t know since I’ve never been in Seattle this time of year… but it has only been this cold a couple times this winter. It even snowed a little the other day.

Save As in Netbeans

So, my roommate Kevin was working on some Java code for this project we are working on. He’s using the NetBeans editor and I just got a kick out of what he said. Apparently, the version of NetBeans he is using simply does not have a ‘Save As’ feature.

I did a little Googling, and found this NetBeans tips and tricks page which suggests a 7 step work around for ‘Save As’. Awsome.

Microsoft Office Live

While trying to give Microsoft Office Live a spin, which proposes to give out free domain names and web site hosting, I get this error message:

“In order to use Microsoft Office Live, you will need to have Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or later running on Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Microsoft Windows Server 2003. You can download the latest version of Internet Explorer from the Internet Explorer downloads page.”

So, basically, anyone using Firefox and/or a Mac will not be able to view your site. Isn’t that like half of internet users out there these days?

I just wanted to say that my Lovesac is really comfortable. It’s this giant bean bag-ish thing as Matt has pointed out below. I have the Super Sac which fits three people. It’s huge! I know it has been sounding like I’m getting paid to promote products, but I’m not, these are just really cool things.

Control-Alt-Delete with Boot Camp

So, I finally figured out how to do ctrl-alt-del in Windows on my MacBook using Apple’s Boot Camp. You have to hold down the fn key as well. So…. fn+ctrl+alt+delete. Hope that helps some people out.

Google Gears on the iPhone?

I really hope that Google Gears will work soon on the Apple iPhone. That would be sweet. Basically, if you don’t want to pay for a data plan, it would allow you to sync your data when you have a wifi connection, and then use that data later when you don’t have a connection.
The application I’m thinking of is a grocery list. So, you and your family or housemates could edit your list on the web, on any computer or cell phone. Before you leave, you sync your iPhone with Google Gears over wifi to get the latest list. Once you are at the store, you take out your phone and use the grocery list web application just like normal, without an internet connection.

Things I Wish Existed: Time Delayed Email

Wouldn’t it be nice to send an email now, and know that it will arrive in someone’s inbox a few days later?

How about sending yourself reminders? You could just send the email and forget about it for a few days. I know that todo lists are meant for this, but really, I don’t want to see certain things on my todo list until days after I put them there.

How about event reminders. When I was Activities Chair for HKN, I would always send an email about a week, and another a couple days before an event. If only I could type the two emails sometime beforehand and then tell my email program to delay actually sending the emails until those dates.

Another thing that I find myself needing is a way to follow up on emails. So, I send one email, and if I don’t get a reply to it, I should send another email to make sure they got it, and remind them to send me a reply. I usually don’t remember to send these follow up emails, so it would be nice to get a reminder about sending the email, or have my email program ask me if I want to send the follow up email I had previously written.
