Calendar + AJAX + iCal + Palm Desktop = Amazing!

Friday, April 21st, 2006

Title says basically what I’m looking for. I’m looking for a web based calendar which will publish and subscribe via iCal and will also sync with Palm Desktop on my laptop.

Why hasn’t there been a good AJAX calendar that you can use to publish and subscribe to calendars via the ical standard? Right now, the best I’ve seen is Planzo, but it has yet to publish or subscribe via iCal. Next on the list to evaluate is AirSet, which looks promising, but their site is so full of features that it is hard to get to the simple stuff you really want.

One really good use of this type of software is to plan semi-weekly meetings between a group of about 10 people when individuals schedules sometimes change depending on the week, but for the most part stay the same.

I started to do this with Mschedule a couple summers ago, but the only data I drew from was from the University of Michigan’s schedule of courses and individual students’ schedules that we’re imported into the site by simply copying and pasting from the official site hosted by the University called Wolverine Access. It was my first web application, so I didn’t really know what I was doing with PHP, CSS, or even HTML div tags (I used tables for all the layout).

ZuckMail?

Saturday, March 11th, 2006

I thought this was interesting… I looked in the headers of an email I recieved from facebook. The message said it was sent with ZuckMail. I’m not sure what ZuckMail is, but I’m assuming its named after the head honcho over there at facebook, Mark Zuckerberg. Anyone with more information about what ZuckMail is, please let me know…. I’m interested. Check it out:

Google Sucks

Saturday, December 31st, 2005

Ok, Google doesn’t really suck, but I want to see if I can get anyone’s attention over there in Googleland about this problem. This is a BUG! A big fat BUG! Ok, so maybe it doesn’t produce the any error or anything, but it really annoyed me when I searched.

Wanna know what I searched for? … http

Yup… every web site on the internet has that wonderful prefix. Look at how many results you get: 6,340,000,000 Holy crap! But, guess what… when I type in http I don’t want every web site that ever existed. I want a web site about http, specifically the http protocol.

Seems that Yahoo has figured it out.

But MSN hasn’t. Who knows what kind of crazy algorithms they are using to come up with search results like that. Weird.

So, every once in a while I check my referer logs that tell me which pages people click on to get to my pages. Here’s a query from MSN:
http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=%D9%84%D8%BA&FORM=QBNO

Can anyone tell me what this means in English? I’m really curious why my page would be the top search result for something in a different language.

Wi-Fi Phones

Note to self… invest in Wi-Fi Phones. I predict you will get back 5 times what you put in in 10 years.

I predicted Google was going to go way up as soon as it came out with its IPO. It has tripled.

Simple Microwave – Programming

Friday, July 22nd, 2005

So, I just got a cool idea today. Maybe this will revolutionize cooking. But, first we need to get appliances hooked up to the internet and maybe better in-house ethernet wiring. Anyway… here we go. I’ll make this as simple as possible, then expand later if need be.

Put in. Press start.

That’s how simple cooking should be. I’m thinking microwaves at first, but it might be expandable to toasters, ovens, stoves, etc.

Right now, they do already have presets, but I don’t use them because I can’t customize them, and they are very limited. I don’t even know what some of them do unless I try them.

Maybe I’ll add on to this later.
