iPhone + Video Blog + Apple Store

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

What: iPhone Demos

How: Video Blog!

Where: Apple Store

I just got some great inspiration from this video I watched on YouTube from Wallstrip. It is entirely possible to record and produce an entire video blog from within an Apple store. This might be a great way to demo the iPhone without actually buying one. I think I might do this once I get to Seattle on July 11th. But, if someone wants to start before then, please do, and at least give me credit for the idea by linking to this blog post.

Outages

Thursday, January 5th, 2006

Sorry about the outages the last few days if anyone even noticed.

I’ve been trying to move some stuff from off the server in my parents basement into a real hosting environment. So far I haven’t been very successful with my hosting provider. I don’t know if they are just slow or don’t understand that I want to host the DNS through another provider.

Before doing that, the power went out at home, and the computer I run my personal web sites off of doesn’t automatically turn itself on when the power goes on. Maybe there’s a BIOS setting for that, but I forgot to check.

What’s even frustrating me more is that when I’m at home, I can’t access my server via its internet domain name because the stupid router doesn’t seem to do loopback. WordPress, the software I use to publish this blog gets its domain name from the database, so if I wanted to use my blog in my house, I would have to change the database entry, thereby taking down the blog to the outside world, then change it back when I’m done.

When I got back to school (taking the wireless router with me) I couldn’t access my server at all from my laptop. I did a whole bunch of investigating, and was convinced for a while that the firewall for my apartment building was to blame. Maybe it decided I was communicating too much with my server, or the person who operates the firewall had noticed a large ammount of traffic from one IP.

Nope… wasn’t the problem. Here’s what was… In an attempt to fix the router loopback issue at home, I changed some of my portable wireless router settings to see if I could get it to redirect requests to the local IP of my server. Didn’t work. Because I did that, it was trying to redirect requests in my apartment building, which didn’t make sense at all. So, changed the configuration back, and bam… worked. Woot!

Sorry about all the whining. I needed to get that out of my system

I’ll be discontinuing the old way of accessing my weblog soon (kylemulka.com/wordpress/), so anyone still getting the rss feed from there, or linking there will have trouble. Please use the http://blog.kylemulka.com domain instead. Thanks.

Summer 2006 Internship or Startup

Sunday, October 23rd, 2005

UPDATE: I’m employed this summer… yey! Here’s the old post:

I’ve gotten several emails from people at Microsoft and Google asking me if I’m looking for work. No, they haven’t offered me a job yet, but have seen the blog and wanted to know if I had applied. I’d like to let you all know, that, yes, indeed I am looking for an internship. Summer 2006 is currently free, so that would be a good time for me to pick up an internship.

I’m interested in web services, service oriented architectures, object oriented design, social software, agile software development, developer friendly APIs, location based services, geographic information systems, machine learning, and open source software. There’s probably stuff I didn’t list, but that covers most of it.

You can check out my resume in various formats here.

On the flip side, I am also interested in starting my own business or teaming up with some people to start one or continue on an idea related to my interests. I have several posible ideas which could be very exciting to implement and see people use.

So, if you are a web software company, large or just getting started, contact me if you are interested in working with me.

If you are an individual looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference on the web and have the technical expertise to make it happen, contact me. Let’s see what we can work out.

If you google “short messaging system” for images, my contact information image appears as number 8 as of today. What? How does that happen?

One Goal of This Journal

Wednesday, June 8th, 2005

There are several goals I have relating to this online journal. One of them is to get people to read it, even if just a little bit here and there. I hope to post links to some good stuff on the web, and short little posts about my experiences. If I don’t find it interesting, you probably won’t, so I won’t post it. (like its really hot out, I sweat a lot, or I played frisbee again today) Those things should be kept to one’s self. But, things other people might find funny, interesting, or good to know, I will post. For example, people might want to know that the burito’s at Qdoba are good, right?

Ok, I lied. Maybe I will post a few personal things that aren’t that interesting, but only once, and I’ll try to keep it short.

Straight-Up Links Don’t Belong in Blogs

Sunday, June 5th, 2005

So, I’ve decided that a blog is not really the best place to put links because they are sorted by time and not as much so by ranking, or catagory. I’d be glad to take suggestions of server-side software that organizes my links. That would rock. But, for now, I will continue posting away.

WebCam up!

Wednesday, June 1st, 2005

I’ve gotten the WebCam back up. I’m not sure if I should keep it up. Its kind of boring just pointing at me and my computer.

New Name, New Version, New Theme, More Catagories, More Posts

Sunday, May 29th, 2005

You might notice that I got a little post happy recently. Sorry about that. I updated the WordPress software I was using to the latest version, got myself a new theme, and put up a bunch of posts with a bunch of new catagories. If you don’t want to read everyhting, just click on one of the catagories on the right to show only what you are interested in seeing.
