GPS and Geocaching

Friday, July 15th, 2005

Its amazing what you can do with a coordinate system, especially when you have a device that tells you exactly where you are in that system.

Just last week I recieved my GPS receiver in the mail. I was so excited! I was excited to the point that I went out Geocaching that very next day. It is pretty sweet. Check it out! My first, and so far only found Geocache: John’s MONUMENTal Campus Tour

I also just received a cable to hook up my GPS to my computer so that I can do all sorts of crazy stuff with Google Maps , Google Earth, and the GPX file format.

Crazy Car Crash

Thursday, July 14th, 2005

I witnessed this really nasty accident the other day. F-150, totaled.

I heard the crash, and saw immediately after the impact. The two cars looked like they were attached for a few seconds, then one swerved left up onto the median, the other went into oncomming traffic went up onto the curb in the grass on the wrong side of the road, came back into the middle of the road just in front of us at about 40mph, did a dount with the peddle to the floor and took out both side tires as it side swiped the curb. Yea… it was a bit scary. We almost died.

It looked like she had no control over speed. Either that or she thought the gas was actually the brake. We stopped on the side and ran across the road to “save” her. She and the other driver were fine, except that she said she couldn’t breath. We were all lucky.

The emergency crew was quick. About three people called 911 from their cars. Fire truck first, then a cop, then an ambulance, then another cop, then a tow truck.

Parents, Seafood, Cars, and Frozen Goodness

Sunday, July 10th, 2005

My parents came down to AA on Friday and met me at the park we play frisbee at. It was nice of them to come bring stuff and go out to dinner. We hit up a pretty expensive restraunt called Real Seafood Co. in downtown on Main Street. As we were ariving we noticed the street blocked off. There was a car show, so parking was a little rough. The cars were pretty sweet… especially the new concept car. Also, there was a DeLorean. (like the one from Back to the Future) We got a table right next to the sidewalk. Unfortunately, the car right next to us was reving its engine really loud for like 5 minutes. It was a good thing the show was over, and all the cars left within 10 minutes or so. I had the Fettucini Alfredo. It was yummy. The seafood was so tender. Then we went to Ritter’s. I’m sure that frosen custard is really fattening… Can’t the small be smaller??

Structured Procrastination

Tuesday, July 5th, 2005

Ahh… the art of faking yourself out. Doing useful stuff by avoiding other stuff. I find myself doing this, but maybe I should consider doing it more often so I get useful stuff done instead of nothing.

Notification Framework

Sunday, June 26th, 2005

I’m still thinking that the Notification Framework would be a good thing to implement, but I really don’t know how I should go about it. I want it to be able to scale, but I’m afraid that if I don’t plan everything beforehand, it won’t. There may not be enough time. Maybe I’ll do something simpler.

Dance Dance Immolation – DDR with Fire!

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

Dance Dance Immolation is an adaptation of the popular arcade video game Dance Dance Revolution, but with fire! Basically, you play DDR; when you do well, the computer shoots big propane blasts up into the air. When you do poorly, it shoots you in the face with flamethrowers. Yes, you, as in your actual corporeal body. And yes, flamethrowers, like the kind that are on fire.”

MulkaMich: have you ever played the one game that you sing to and it recognises the pitch? its a little like ddr
MulkaMich: except with voice
Jeremy31337: No.
Jeremy31337: That’s weird.
MulkaMich: well, anyway, I whooped it singing Cher’s Believe in falsetto
MulkaMich: it was hot
Jeremy31337: Wow.
Jeremy31337: So you have to sing correctly?
Jeremy31337: And you get points for that?
MulkaMich: more or less, yes
Jeremy31337: Wow.
Jeremy31337: That’s awesome!!!
MulkaMich: you have to get the right pitches
Jeremy31337: I would totally pwn that game!
Jeremy31337: I have perfect pitch
MulkaMich: and by perfect pitch, do you mean you can sing any given note without a reference?
Jeremy31337: Correct

Roomba?

Saturday, June 11th, 2005

Do you think I should buy a Roomba? We currently have no vacuum, and I think it would be really cool if it worked.

We played around with these things in my first semester Engineering 100 class at the University of Michigan. We basically had to reverse engineer it… draw up detailed diagrams, explained its logic, etc. It was actually pretty nifty. The funny thing about that class is that the projects we were doing actually were being implemented. For example, a GPS Tracking System for the UofM Busses, a Social Networking Website, Wireless Internet Connections, etc.
